A practical workshop on how business can combat corruption

A practical workshop on how businesses can combat corruption, organized by Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business (MCRB) and the ASEAN CSR Network, in partnership with the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and Global Compact Network Myanmar, was held at Summit Parkview Hotel, Yangon on 16 March 2016.

Firstly, Professor Aung Tun Thet (Economic Adviser to the President, Chair of Global Compact Network Myanmar), U Tint Swe (CEO, UMFCCI), Daw Khin Khin Nwe (Joint Secretary General, UMFCCI) and Vicky Bowman (MCRB) delivered on the topics of corruption in Myanmar and hosted the panel discussion for business integrity and the private sector-a leadership view. Afterward, Mr. Akharakit (Ryan) (UNODC Anti-corruption Specialist) delivered the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and its implications for business, UK Bribery Act and US FCPA and Dr. Thaung Han (Group COO, Max Myanmar Holding) discussed the policy, procedures and practices of anti-corruption in Max Myanmar Group.

The afternoon session proceeded with Dr. Muhammad Mohan (Secretary General, Transparency International Malaysia), Sandy Chapman (Head of Public Affairs & Communication, Coca Cola) conducting the workshop on practical steps to tackling corruption - best practices and useful tools. Then, Tina Singhsacha (Country Head/ Chief Representative, Standard Chartered bank), K. K Hlaing (Chainman, SMART Group) and David Allen (Spectrum) discussed the roles and expectation from various stakeholders in tackling corruption- perspectives from business and civil society prior to the successful closing ceremony of the workshop.
